Gerard Jones
Gerard Jones is a young British director emerging from the Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House. He is winner of the 1st prize of the European Opera Directing Prize 2018. Next production: Luzerner Theater and Poznan.

Gerard Jones, (Gravesend, UK) is an English opera director. Jones won 1st Prize at the European Opera Directing Competition, part of Opera Europa during their conference in Zurich 2018. Jones was a member of the Royal Opera’s Young Artists Programme 2015–17 seasons in London where he directed the following pieces:  

• La Tragedie de Carmen, ROH at Wiltons Music Hall, London

• Handel’s Orest, ROH at Wiltons Music Hall, London 

• JPYAP Summer performances on the main stage of the Royal Opera 2016

• JPYAP Summer performances on the main stage of the Royal Opera 2017

RECENT AND FUTURE WORKS 

Following winning the European Prize he presented the full production of Manon Lescaut at Staatstheater Mainz to fantastic reviews. Another production of the title for Opera Poznan is in progress after the premiere schedueld for May 2020 had to be cancelled and rescheduled for 2022-23. 

Jones has presented his staging of Monteverdi’s madrigals (selection) at Teatro Arriaga Bilbao, invited by its Artistic Director, Calixto Bieito. 

In Fall 2021 he presents a new production at Theater Luzern.

He started his career as Assisting/Revival Director of established names such as Richard Jones, Graham Vick, Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, Anthony McDonald, David Alden, Katie Mitchell, John Fulljames, Kasper Holten and Deborah Warner, .

Theatres include the Salzburger Festspiele, Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Teatro alla Scala, Bolshoi Theater, Santa Fe Opera, San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera and Staatsoper Hamburg.
