Joan Font Stage Director
Joan Font is a founding director of the thetare company Comediants having led the creation of more than 30 stage productions worldwide.
Joan Font's productions are regularly sold-out and include The Magic Flute, Cinderella, L’Italiana in Algeri, Barber of Seville in some of the most important opera houses in Europe, USA and Canada: Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, Welsh National, Opera di Firenze, Royal Opera House of Muscat, Grand Theater of Geneve, La Monnaie / DeMunt, Opera National de Bordeux, Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera in Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, Seattle Opera, Canadian Opera Company Toronto, Opera in Montreal, among others.
Joan Font has worked on special projects for the Festival d’Avignon, and the Biennale in Venice, Italy, as well as in Paris, New York, Chicago, Bogotá, Sydney, Tokyo, Dublin, Edimburgh, London, Hannover Beijing, Santiago de Chile and his hometown: Barcelona.
Outside opera he developed a special parade performance for Shanghai’s World Expo in Seville and Shanghai and Hanoi’s Millenium (Vietnam). Other remarkable work in theatre includes Persephone in Moscow’s Chekhov Festival, Madrid's National centre for the Theatre and Barcelona's Teatre Lliure.
Font started in opera director with The Magic Flute for Gran Teatre del Liceu and Opera Coruna) followed by Orfeo ed Euridice for Peralada’s Festival. He also premiered the zarzuela La Verbena de la Paloma at Granada’s Festival, Cenerentola (a coproduction of Welsh National Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu and Geneva's Grand Théatre. He directed Rossini's L’Italiana in Algeri in Madrid’s Teatro Real, a coproduction with Houston Grand Opera, the Opéra National de Bordeaux and the Maggio Fiorentino in Florence, Italy. He has also created some shorter operas oriented to younger audiences.
