Joan Font is a real star in opera with selling out productions of The Magic Flute, Cinderella, L’Italiana in Algeri, Barber of Seville in some leading opera houses in Europe, USA and Canada. Joan has presented his operas with absolute absolutes at Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real, Welsh National, Opera di Firenze, Royal Opera House of Muscat, Grand Theater of Geneve, La Monnaie / DeMunt, Opera National de Bordeux, Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera in Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, Seattle Opera, Canadian Opera Company Toronto, Opera in Montreal, among others.

Joan Font is a founding director of Comediants he participated in the creation of more than 30 stage productions all over the five continents. He has worked on special projects for the Festival d’Avignon, and Vennice’s Biennale, as well as other projects in Paris, New York, Chicago, Bogotá, Sydney, Tokyo, Dublin, Edimburgh, London, Hannover and Beijing, amongst other cities. 

Font started working as opera director in titles such as The Magic Flute (Gran Teatre del Liceu) or Orfeo ed Euridice (Peralada’s Festival, 2002). 

He also premiered a new production of the zarzuela La Verbena de la Paloma (Granada’s Festival), Cenerentola (a coproduction of the Welsh National Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Grand Théatre de Genève). More recently, he worked as artistic director for Gioacchino Rossini’s opera L’Italiana in Algeri in Madrid’s Teatro Real, a coproduction of Houston Grand Opera, the Opéra National de Bordeaux and Florence’s Maggio Fiorentino. He has also made family/children oriented abbreviated versions of most of these titles too. 

These titles have been sell-out successes repeated later at Barcelona’s Liceu, Los Angeles Opera, Seattle, Omaha, and soon in Toronto Opera, Lyric Opera Chicago and Washington National Opera. He has also directed Barber of Seville for Opera National Bordeaux. In 2010 he directed the newest version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute in Spain,

Outside opera he worked with Comediants in the presentation of a special performance for Shanghai’s World Expo and the specially-made show for the celebration of Hanoi’s Millenium (Vietnam).

he directed and premiered the latest original play Persephone in Moscow’s Chekhov Festival, which was later played in Madrid’s Centro Dramático Nacional and Barcelona’s Teatre Lliure.

Joan Font directed the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Barcelona setting out a new vision for these ceremonies.
