Ernesto Morillo born in Caracas (Venezuela). After his initial musical studies in Venezuela, he continued his training in Italy.
One of his first roles was “the King” in an Aida production by the Arturo Toscanini Foundation in Busseto and directed by Franco Zeffirelli. He then became a member of the Atelier Lyrique des Jeunes Voix du Rhin – Opera Nationale du Rhin, Strasbourg.
He then saw his debut in major roles: Verdi’s Attila with the Opernwerkstatt in Vienna or Colline in La Bohème with Gustavo Dudamel in Caracas.
Further operatic roles include Mephistopheles in Faust, Nilakantha in Lakme in Tokyo, Ferrando in Il Trovatore in Italy, Banquo in Macbeth with Opera North in Leeds, Oroveso in Norma with Grange Park Opera in Hampshire, UK .
Ernesto Morillo received rave reviews for his North American debut as Sparafucile in Rigoletto with L’Opera de Montreal. Further highlights have included Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlo with Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Colline in La Bohème with Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra) with Teatro Colon, his debut as Landgraf von Thuringen in Tannhäuser conducting Gustavo Dudamel at the Opera of Colombia in Bogotà, Attila with Teatro Filarmonico di Verona.
In the last years Ernesto Morillo made his debut with Theater St. Gallen as Alvise Badoero in La Gioconda, he sang Attila with Teatro Verdi di Trieste Donato Renzetti conducting, Timur in Turandot with Opera in Bogota and Mozart’s Requiem with Teatro Verdi di Trieste conducting.
Other roles include Zaccaria in Nabucco with Teatro Verdi di Trieste under G. Bisanti, at Teatro Politeama in Lecce, at Opera de Lima, Peru and at Summer Festival in Taormina where he also sang as Ramfis in Aida. Morillo also sang
Nabucco’s Zaccaria with Opera de Oviedo, Gijon and Baluarte in a production by Emilio Sagi and Attila with Oper Lübeck, Timur in Torre del Lago’s Festival, Rocco in Fidelio at the Opera of Colombia.
More recently he made his debut as Wotan in Das Rheingold at MGS Maribor (Slovenia).
