
Blanca Añon Profiles
Blanca is a freelance designer of sets/costumes and environments for opera, theatre and dance. Her works also belong to fine arts, installations and video art.
She graduated in Fine Arts at Universitat Politècnica València (Spain) and at Hochshule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg (Germany). She further received her master’s degree in set design from New York University’s TISCH School of the Arts where she was awarded the “Oliver Smith American Design Award”.
Blanca is proud of an extensive list of opera, theatre and dance productions she has designed sets or both set and costumes for. She has collaborated with scenic designers such as Paul Steinberg, Andrew Lieberman, Marsha Ginsberg, Doug Fitch, Chloe Lamford and, Lizzie Clachan. Since 2014 she works as an associate scenic designer at Festival d’Art Lyrique Aix-en-Provence in France.
OPERA
In Opera she designed sets for Manon Lescaut at the Teatr Wielki in Poznan (Director: Richard Gerard Jones), Rigoletto at the Ural Opera House Ekaterinburg (Director: Alexey Frandetti), Orfeo ed Euridice at the Luzerner Theater (Director: Marcos Morau – La Veronal), Œdipe for the National Opera Bucharest (Director: Valentina Carrasco). She also collaborated as assistant stage designer in opera such as Innocence (D: Simon Stone), Pélleas et Mélissande and Alcina (D: Katie Mitchell), and Il Turco in Italia (D: Christopher Alden) all at Aix- en-Provence Opera Festival; Khovanschina, (D: David Alden) at Vlaamse Opera; Rosenkavalier (D: Richard Jones) at Glyndbourne Opera; Partenope (D: Christopher Alden) at ENO; Jeanne d'Arc (D: Christopher Schlingensief). at Deutsche Oper Berlin.

With a list of over 30 theatre works in countries such the US, Russia, Romania, Switzerland, Spain and Germany Blanca shows depth and breadth of directors and productions.
Blanca has worked for companies such Daniel Fish, El Conde de Torrefiel, La Veronal, Ola Maciejewska, La Brutal, La Teta Calva and Perez&Disla among others. After her recent project Unsere Zeit, a new play written and directed by Simon Stone at Residenz Theater, Munich. She also had the recent premiere of Lucia di Lammermoor at the MET in New York and L.A. Opera (costumes) and a new production of Die lustige Witwe at the Wuppertaler Buehnen, directed by Christopher Alden.
She is nominated for best set designer at the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC) 2021.
